Course Main Objective:

LICQual HAZMAT Emergency Response Refresher Course is intended to serve as a refresher for first responders at the awareness level. Individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the appropriate authorities of the release are considered first responders at the awareness level. They would not take any further action after informing the authorities of the release. The time required to complete the course is determined by your knowledge of workplace safety.

Overview and Course Contents:

Safety Training Services, Inc. provides a refresher course in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
During this training programme, participants will learn about: health and safety issues, as well as the dangers that exist at hazardous waste sites.
How to obtain the names of personnel and alternates responsible for site safety and health?
Work practises for reducing risks from site hazards.
Procedures and requirements for monitoring.
Chemical PPE for Hazardous Material Sites.
Procedures for handling drums and containers.
Decontamination procedures
Procedures for emergency response by employees at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.
Medical surveillance requirements include recognising symptoms and signs that may indicate overexposure to hazardous materials.
Engineering controls, work practises, and personal protective equipment for employee protection.

All employees
managers
supervisors

who have completed the 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) course are eligible for HAZMAT Refresher Training. Meets OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.120 requirements.

Skills and Knowledge:

Understand what hazardous substances are and the risks they pose in the event of an incident.
Recognize the potential outcomes of an emergency created when hazardous substances are present.
In an emergency, recognise the presence of hazardous substances.
If possible, identify the hazardous substances.
Understand the role of the first responder awareness individual in the employer's emergency response plan, including site security and control, as well as the Emergency Response Guidebook of the United States Department of Transportation.
Recognize the need for additional resources and notify the communication centre as needed.

Training Materials:

Participants in this training programme will receive a training manual with a detailed script keyed to overhead graphics. Upon successful completion of the training programme, the student will receive a certificate and wallet card.
